Generally the Yuvarājapaṭṭābhiṣēkam was celebrated when the Crown Prince had gained all theoretical knowledge of administration. But under certain circumstances the Crown Prince was anointed Yuvarāja though he happened to be very young. That was due perhaps to the fact that the reigning kings feared that succession to the throne would be disputed after their death. It was so when Kṛṣṇa Rāya appointed his son Tirumala as Yuvarāja in A.D. 1524 when he was but six years old.¹¹
