The value of documentary evidence was highly appreciated. The kings or chiefs did not fail to examine all relevant documents in connection with any suit that appeared before them. When for instance a case about a dispute between the Paḷḷars and the Paraivars of the villages comprised within Kānanāḍu and Amantūr Padaiparru in the modern Pudukkōṭṭai State came up before Raghunātha Rāya Toṇḍamānār, the local ruler, he went through the inscriptions bearing on the suit found in the temples of Tekkattūr, Virāccilai and Lambalakkuḍi, and gave his decision.⁴⁹
