Prof. Majumdar, however, on the description of it in the *Mahāvagga* as the Western boundary of the Buddhist Middle Country, proposes to identify it with Thāneswar which is said by Yuan Chwang to be the said boundary; *C. A. G. I.*, Intro. p. xliii; the *Jātaka* description would however seem to indicate its position to the north of Mithilā and south of the Himālayas. |
