We may also cite the opinion of Vasiṣṭha: 'In a dispute about a house or a field reliance (may be placed on the depositions of) neighbours' (XVI. 13).¹ As explained by Kauṭilya the decision of these courts was that of the majority of the persons constituting the court.²
