Thus the rural registers recorded the substance (*grāmāgraṁ*) of each village, its economic value and resources (*prātisvikam*), the kind of contribution it made to the general welfare of the country, as also the collective substance of all the villages in a division (*sāmūhikaṁ cha parimāṇam*).
