Capture of Elephants: Khedda. Female elephants were used in the capture of elephants (*Hasti-bandhakī*) which were pursued by the traces of their dung and urine, their foot marks, the places of rest or the damage caused by them in their course (*kūlapātoddeśena*). The mode of capture has been described by Megasthenes: it was to place a few female elephants in an enclosure with a surrounding deep trench into which the wild animals found their way by a bridge to be subsequently withdrawn.
