**Pataliputra as a centre of Learning.** As related in the *Mahāvaṁsa Ṭīkā*, Chāṇakya came all the way from Taxila to Pāṭaliputra in pursuit of learning and disputation centred at that imperial capital (*vādam pariyesanto Pupphapuraṁ gantvā*).
