**Appliances for Cultivation.** He is to supply these labourers with all things necessary for the work of cultivation such as implements (*karshaṇa-yantra*) like 'plough, rope, sickle, together with bullocks.' Peasants must also be supplied with the supplementary assistance of Artisans (*Kāru*) such as the Blacksmith (*Karmāraḥ Ayaskāraḥ*), Carpenter (*Kuṭṭākaḥ Takshā*), the Digger (*Medaka or Khanaka or Bhedaka*), Rope-maker (*Rajjuvartakaḥ*) and destroyer of pests (*Sarpagrāhādi*).
