Megasthenes further states that these high Officers of the State were recruited from the class of Officers described by him under the general name of Councillors and Assessors. It is interesting to note that these correspond to the general body of Officers called *Amātyas* by Kauṭilya, out of whom Kauṭilya also recruits, as we have seen, the Ministers of different ranks, the High Officers of the State like the *Sannidhātā* (whom Megasthenes calls Treasurer), the Judges, the Heads of Departments (whom Megasthenes calls the Chief Magistrates) and other subordinate officers.
