Imported (*Āgantu*) salt was more heavily taxed. It had to part with a sixth and on this portion, when sold, were levied the premium of 5 per cent (*pañchakaṁ śataṁ vyājīṁ*) *Vyājī*, and 8 per cent *Rūpika*, besides a toll (*śulka*) and compensation (*vaidharaṇa*) for loss to revenue from salt imported and not home-made (*kretā śulkaṁ rājapanyāchchhedānurūpaṁ cha vaidharaṇaṁ dadyāt*).
