At the ferries of large rivers and small, State-vessels were always ready for traffic, manned by an adequate crew consisting of the Captain (*Śāsaka*), the Steersman (*Niyāmaka*), the crew in charge of the ship's implements (*Dātra-grāhaka*) and rigging (*Raśmigrāhaka*) and those who are to bale out water (*Utsechaka*).
