Greek References. The Greek writers are full of references to Informers whom they call "Overseers," as we have already seen. According to Megasthenes, they comprised an entire class of people whose business was to watch all that was going on and "make reports secretly to the king." What is a more interesting statement confirming Kauṭilya is that "the most trustworthy men are appointed to fill these offices." Arrian, speaking in the same strain, also states that "it is against use and wont for these to give in a false report."
