*Centres of Administration.* Administrative head-quarters or civil stations were located at the centres of 800, 400, 200, and even 10 villages and were called respectively (1) *Sthānīya* (2) *Droṇa-mukha* (3) *Kārvaṭika* and (4) *Saṅgrahaṇa*. Of these, a *Sthānīya* was the centre of wealth in the locality (*samudayasthānaṁ dhanotpattisthāna-bhūtaṁ* in II. 3), a sort of a provincial capital in those days.
