The duty of the *Samāhartā* was to see to (*aveksheta*) the collection of Revenue due from the following sources, viz., (1) Towns (*Durga*) (2) the country side or rural parts (*Rāshṭra*) (3) Mines (*Khani*) (4) Plantations (*Setu*) (5) Forests (*Vana*) (6) Cattle (*Vraja*) and (7) Communications (*Vaṇik-patha*, 'roads of traffic').
