² *Firishtah*, i, p. 263; C.H.I. iii, p. 376. This, however, is doubtful. The *Sirat-i-Fīrūz Shāhī* (p. 269) says that al-Mutawakkil-'ala-'llah sent letters patent in 764 A.H. recognizing Fīrūz Shāh as the sultan of all India including the Deccan. In 766 A.H. the caliph communicated to the sultan that he, his father or his grandfather had given recognition only to the sultans of Dehlī and to no one else amongst the other rulers of India.
