Mitra-Miśra's references are varied. In erudition and scholarship he is not to be beaten either by Hemādri or by Chaṇḍeśvara. It is perhaps worth while to mention that he attaches great importance to the *Purāṇas*. The *Viṣṇudharmottara Purāṇa* has commanded his special attention. Evidently in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries this *Purāṇa* held a very high place in the intellectual and social life of India.
