Like all other *nibandhas* the *Rājanītiprakāśa* is a compilation or digest of original texts. It is not a commentary on a text although it is once in a while furnished with explanations of words or phrases. Thus considered the author or compiler of the *Vīramitrodaya* may be regarded as having contributed nothing to political science or to the other branches of law summarized in his encyclopaedia.
