The last three or four years of Kanhoji’s life were probably quiet and uneventful. His rivals at sea caused him no anxiety, and in 1725 he considered conditions sufficiently peaceful to justify his leaving his headquarters and journeying to Satara to pay his respects to his sovereign and liege-lord. He was received there with great honour and respect and after a short absence returned to Kolaba, where he died on 20 June 1729.¹
