¹ na svāminā nisṛṣṭo'pi śūdro dāsyādvimucyate; nisargajaṃ hi tattasya kastasmāttadapohati. Manu, VIII. 414. This is treated by Medhātithi as a glorified exaggeration (arthavāda), but probably it better indicates conditions in the time of the commentator than that of Manu.
