v1.c14.s2.5
Because of low rainfall and lack of irrigation facilities winter cultivation is restricted. Only during the rainy seasons millets, lentils and other crops are grown. Both alluvial and sandy soils are however very fertile and in spite of low rainfall support good tree, shrub and grassy vegetation. Pastoralism is therefore an important part of the local economy. This also leads to nomadism as people have to move in search of fodder and water for their livestock. There are also certain habitually nomadic groups like the Vanvagri, the Kal-Beliya and the Shanshi who make a living by hunting-gathering, labour, petty crime and offering entertainment.
