In India the Quaternary evidence is properly and adequately preserved in the arid and semi-arid tracts like Rajasthan, Saurashtra and the Deccan comprising the GODAVARI and Krishna basins. They hold a great potential for palaeoclimatic studies. The cultural development also can be traced in these regions and there is ample scope for tying them up with palaeoclimatic and geomorphic events. Saurashtra and parts occurring near the Tropic of Cancer are climatically sensitive and the tectonic activities were not severe.
