Because of their constructional features it is difficult to identify the purpose of the ring-wells. But those that are too shallow or have thin bottom within habitational deposits are perhaps soakage pits. However,, on the basis of the well-heads, location inside rooms, pavements around them, use-marks in some, *e.g.* at BANGARH and SISUPALGARH, and their being excavated sufficiently deep into the natural soil, some of them could have served the function of draw-wells. Such wells for drawing water are still common in certain parts of the country.
