A scapula of *Rhinoceros unicornis* collected at Langhnaj is thought to have been used by the prehistoric man as an anvil for the production of microliths (Zeuner, 1952). This is the only species that would be likely to be found in Gujarat. It was previously common in grassy jungles and swampy ground throughout the peninsula of India. At the present day however this animal is becoming rare and is confined to Assam plains and Nepal.
