The Indian wild boar *Sus scrofa cristatus* is represented by numerous teeth in varying stages of wear. In fact there is very little difference in size as in relative proportions between the subspecies *cristatus* and *scrofa*. The teeth are very variable in size. In India *Sus scrofa cristatus* replaces the European wild boar, *Sus scrofa scrofa*. *Sus scrofa cristatus* is common throughout the peninsula. It lives in grass jungle and scrub and near marshy ground.
