In the upper Ganga basin the Chalcolithic settlements betray unmistakable late Harappa elements as at AMBKHEDI and BARGAON, whereas in the c. doab the OCW [4.12; 11.5] occupations are free from Harappa influence and at SAIPAI even copper hoards are associated with it. Further e. the Chalcolithic culture is characterized by the white-painted black-and-red ware, but the painted black-on-red also occurs. They have been reported from CHIRAND, SONPUR, PANDU RAJAR DHIBI and MAHISDAL, which can be dated to the last quarter of the 2nd millennium B.C.
