In the Sal-Kopai-Ajay zone a number of microlithic blades, polished stone axes and celts and terracotta figurines have been found scattered in regions adjacent to one another but the sites were abandoned after the Chalcolithic phase. The chief sites are MAHISDAL on the n. bank of the Kopai and HARAIPUR, both already excavated. At HATTIGA, Dt Birbhum, the present exploration has laid bare remains of a Chalcolithic complex comprising almost all the diagnostic ceramic types, a Neolithic celt, microlithic flakes including waste flakes, terracotta discs and beads of copper, agate and terracotta.
