Writing had certainly come into use, though no inscription definitely earlier than Aśoka has been found. Terracotta or clay sealings with short inscriptions have been recovered from SONPUR, KUMRAHAR, CAMPĀ and VAIŚĀLĪ. Wheeled transport must have been in general use. Kauṭilya speaks of large horse-drawn chariots, but we have only terracotta and bone toy wheels to substantiate the observation.
