Like SISUPALGARH, JAUGADA was built in the fullfledged Iron Age but probably had a substratum of the Neolithic culture [4.6.7], a large number of stone celts of oblong section having been found on the surface except one occurring immediately over the natural soil. Probably in this cultural backwater the beginnings of the early historical period were not far removed in time from the end of the Neolithic.
