A large number of terracotta figurines, including plaques with highly developed artistic traits of both secular and religious types, have been discovered from different sites in addition to stone plaques or miniature images of deities. The terracotta figurines distinctly fall in two groups, viz., (1) those of structural associations or monumental type, and (2) household type comprising toys, purely decorative plaques or figures and divinities, etc., including tablets like the one from MATHURA with Buddha in *bhū-sparśa-mudrā*.
