The structural activity of the period is mainly in burnt bricks laid in mud mortar but in most cases the bricks seem to have been robbed from earlier structures, although evidence of the preparation of new ones has also been encountered at a few sites like AHICCHATRĀ, KASHIPUR, Allahabad (Bharadvaja-Ashram, information from B.B. Lal), VIRABHADRA and in some structures at RAJGHAT. Limited data suggesting the use of dressed stone have also come to light from a few sites. Besides, mud, wood, tiles and brickbats also seem to have commonly served as building material. The employment of lime was confined to important structures.
