At Churangarh, also called Sarangarh, Dts Cuttack-Puri, fortification walls are traced amidst jungle, but nothing is known about the fort, which, to judge from its name, might have been founded by Anantavarman Coḍagaṅga (1078-1150). The Barabati fort at Cuttack is traditionally believed to have been founded by Anaṅgabhīma (1216-35). With a wide moat veneered with masonry, the stone walls of the fort were strengthened with sloping bastions. Jajpur, Dt Cuttack, the capital of several dynasties, is singularly denuded of all traces of habitation, and the temples are merely represented by ruins and numerous images.
