From the alluvial deposits of the BELAN system in Dts Mirzapur and Allahabad, Sharma, 1973 and 1975, discovered various facies of the Middle Palaeolithic, which show gradual development from the earlier tradition to the Upper Palaeolithic [4.4]. A number of factory sites which are situated on the slopes of the adjoining hillocks have also been discovered in this region. Besides the usual components, i.e. various types of side scrapers and points, the BELAN group is marked by a fair proportion of end scrapers and Levallois flakes. A good proportion of denticulated and notched tools is also noticed in these collections.
