4.3.3 *W. region*. The main localities yielding Middle Palaeolithic tools in Rajasthan are BHUTIA, HAJRA-KHERI, BEAWAR and CHAMPAKHERI (Mısra, 1967). Gravel II of the Banas system at these sites contains implements on chert, jasper, quartzite and sandstone. Besides the characteristic feature of side scrapers on flakes, almost an equal position is shared by the handaxe, borer and point. A considerable proportion of Levallois flakes and a few tortoise cores evidence the technological advancement of the assemblages. In the Kadamli basin a similar lithic tradition was noticed, the only difference in the latter being the choice of the raw material, invariably quartzite, for making implements.
