Lithic industries displaying Upper Palaeolithic traits from different parts of the country have been variously labelled as flake-blade, blade tool and blade-and-burin. Notwithstanding the fact that a greater part of the evidence is recorded from secondary sites it can be inferred from the mode of their occurrence that favourable ecological niches in the river valleys in different parts of the country, sand-dune regions in Gujarat and Rajasthan and cave areas in the hilly and forested zones of c. India and Andhra Pradesh were inhabited during this period.
