Thermoluminiscent dates of the OCW range from 2600 to 1180 B.C., giving archaeologists a wide range of a millennium and a half of choose his date. Perhaps a date of about the middle of the 2nd millennium B.C. would be a near approximation. The most important feature of the OCW 'culture', with all due qualifications, is its highly probable association with the Copper Hoards [4.11]—a distinctive class of copper (some bronze) objects—weapons and otherwise. At first based on circumstantial grounds, this association is now believed to be firmly established by the excavation at SAIPAI, Dt Etawah.
