Situated 13 km s. of Mohenjo-daro on the w. bank of the Indus opposite Chanhu-daro, Amri was earlier excavated by N.G. Majumdar and later by J.-M. Casal. Here a sequence of three Pds is available, with four sub-pds in Pd I and two sub-pds each in Pds II and III. Pds I and II precede the Harappa occupation. While in II A and II B both Amri and Harappa pottery is available Pd III heralds the mature Harappa culture.
