LOTHAL is another site fairly well dated by the ¹⁴C method. For it as many as nine dates are available, seven for the Harappa occupation and two for what has been termed as devolved Harappa. Of the four Harappa Phases, the earliest (I) gives a date of 2080±135 (=M 2490-2540±145), while an early level of the latest Phase (viz. IV A) gives 1895±115 (=M 2195±125). The dates for the devolved stage (Phase V) are 1865±110 (=M 2165±120) and 1800±140 (=M 2120-2140±150). These dates show that the Harappa occupation of Lothal began somewhere in the 25th century B.C., i.e. about a century later than that at KALIBANGAN, and the devolution began to take place around 2100 B.C.
