v2.c34.66

'Explorations have led to the location of a number of Mesolithic stations on the banks of the horse-shoe lakes, e.g., SARAI NAHAR RAI, HARAHI-BHITULI, PATUPUR and RAJAPUR in Pratapgarh and BANKAT-BHIKHARI-RAMPUR and GARWA in Varanasi. The availability of games, birds and water-creatures in the lakes might have induced the Palaeolithic hunters to come to the n. of the Ganga from their original habitat of the Vindhyas. But as the Ganga valley lacked stone for manufacturing tools, these new-comers would have been compelled to return to the Vindhyas for getting the raw material. In rainy season the Ganga valley might have been inhospitable to these early hunters. Under the nature of the circumstances the coming of these men to the Ganga valley would have been seasonal.'
