The walls of the temples and votive *stūpas* are not always plain. Sometimes they show carved bricks, *kinnaras*, *āmalakas*, bead-and-reel decorations, triangles, squares, rope designs, vases-with-foliage, inverted flasks, etc. Neatly jointed bricks present dentils, pots-with-foliage, arches, *kīrthi-mukhas* and geometric designs. Bricks have straw and rice husk in the core.
