**Nagari**, Dt Chittaurgarh, on the right bank of the Berach, 13 km n. of the Dt headquarters, identified as Madhyamikā or Mādhyamika, the capital of the *Janapada* of the Śibis, a fairly large-sized fortified town. Exploration of Kaviraja Shyamal Das, 1887, near the site at Ghosundi (HATHIBARKALA) led to the discovery of Vaisṇavite inscriptions of the 3rd century B.C. Later on D.R. Bhandarkar found other inscriptions, one recording the performance of an *aśva-medha* sacrifice by one Sarvatāta and another of *vajapeya* sacrifice and a third the erection of a Viṣṇu temple—all of the first quarter of the 5th century.
