**Tulsipur**, Dt Bankura. Excavation at the mound below the confluence of the rivers Kasal (Kangcavati) and Kumari revealed three main phases, of which the first two showed a continuous development. The earliest phase was represented by some floors and a pit and gritty red-slipped, black-and-red and micaceous wares. In the next phase black-polished and grey-polished pottery, a few Chalcolithic [4.14.4] gritty red-slipped wares and some black-and-red sherds were found. Iron was found throughout both the phases. The black-and-red ware types show some similarity with those from sites in Birbhum and Burdwan. The last phase was characterized by a bright-red ware occurring in recent sand which covered much of the site of a depth of about 50 cm.
