Gorakhnāth and the Kānphaṭa Yogīs c5.185

The staff of the Kānphaṭas is of bamboo, or of *timur*, a stick covered with knots, or a trident of metal.¹ At Purī² a Satnāth Yogī of the monastery carried a club,³ made of straw covered with cloth, called a *sudarṣan*. In Bombay and Belgaon the trident is carried by Yogīs while they are out begging.⁴ Sticks of the ordinary kinds are also carried.
