To the ring are attached, by means of a white cotton cord, a whistle, *siṅnād*, and a single *rudrākṣa* berry. The *siṅnād* is, as the name implies, a whistle made of horn, either of black-buck horn, of stag horn, or of rhinoceros horn. As a matter of fact, it may be made of wood or of jade. It is about two inches long. That of black-buck horn is the most popular.
