Vasubandhu, in his *Abhidharmakośa*, has the Kashmir Vaibhāṣikas more in view than the early Sarvāstivādins. This is due to the fact that the Vaibhāṣikas became more popular since the days of Kaniṣka and became predominant in Kashmir and Gandhāra.¹ The popularity of the early Sarvāstivādins was confined to Northern India around Mathurā, where it had its origin.
