¹ Prof. Takakusu writes (*JPTS.* 1904-5, p. 119) that the Sarvāstivādins were also distinguished in the *Vibhāṣā* as Kashmiri and Gandharian, but after compilation of the *Mahāvibhāṣā* the former eclipsed the latter and became known as Kāśmira-vaibhāṣikas, or simply Vaibhāṣikas.
