v2.c35.s3.t5.58
Vasubandhu regards the first opinion (*bhāvanyathātva*) as similar to that of the Sāṅkhyan thinkers and takes it as upholding the theory of transformation (*pariṇāmavāda*). The second opinion he criticises as marked by confusion of time (*adhva-saṃkara*) because the characteristics (*lakṣaṇas*) of past, present and future are always present. According to the fourth opinion, he says, all the three past, present and future exist at the same time, so it is wrong. He therefore accepts Vasumitra's opinion (*avasthānyathātva*) and rejects the other three.²
