Feist (*Kultur der Indogermanen*, pp. 322, 334, 344) still seems to hold Tylor’s view that the process is from regarding a spirit as animating a tree to the worship of the tree (*e. g.*) *per se* and so with the sun. This is clearly open to grave objection.
