As to the ratio of size of these continents and world mountains, it is of a kind that towards the centre each of the succeeding is twice as wide as the preceding. The width (vikkhambha) of Bharaha and Eravaya measures 526 1/19 joy.—i.e. two quite narrow segments—, that of Cullahimavanta and Sihari 1,052 16/19 joy, etc. By taking Bharaha as 1 we may imagine the Jambuddiva as consisting of 190 units (khaṇḍa). From the width there follows the length of the chords (jīvā) representing the boundaries of the continents and world mountains, of the pertinent arcs (dhaṇupaṭṭha), and of the arc sections between the chords (bāhā). The northern edge of the Cullahimavanta, for instance, is a little longer than 24,932 8/19 joy., and the arc above it embracing both the mountains themselves and Bharaha measures 25, 230 14/19 joy.
