¹ Pāṇini is reported to have come all the way to Pāṭaliputra from Śalātura in N. W. F. P, in order to get his famous grammar approved by the synod at that famous capital. Śaṅkarāchārya came to Benares from Malabar in order to seek the imprimatur of the Pandits of that place over his philosophical works.
