Regarding Greek contribution, Nicomachus of Geresa¹ (1st century A. D.) gave an example on the problem of remainders involving linear indeterminate analysis. Diophantus¹ ( 3rd century A. D. ) discussed the indeterminate equations of the second degree and higher degrees but did not deal equations of the first degree. Preliminary notions of Greek geometry, according to Kaye², which is responsible for the evolution of the rule is not found common among Indian works as it has been traced in Greek works.
